Choose the process from the specification

Control the sequence

  1. inspect the substrate, coating, film, foil, ink, adhesive, and approved artwork
  2. prepare metallic, white, color, varnish, cut, crease, and glue separations
  3. apply, print, transfer, coat, or laminate the metallic layer in the agreed order
  4. dry or cure before overprinting and converting
  5. die-cut, crease, fold, glue, pack, and inspect against the approved sample

Maintain registration and appearance

Use controlled color references

The International Color Consortium provides a framework for color-managed workflows. Metallic reflectivity still requires physical approval because a standard display does not reproduce directional reflection. Record the sample, foil or film reference, lighting, and acceptable variation.

  • poor adhesion, scuffing, blocking, delamination, or fold cracking
  • misregistration at text, folds, windows, die cuts, or glue areas
