What Quality Tests Do We Perform on Decorated Glass Bottles, Pumps and Caps?
The factory checks we use to evaluate glass bottles, decoration, pumps and caps as a complete packaging system.
The short answer: the test plan must follow the finished package and its real use conditions
Our quality-control and functional-validation scope can include appearance, neck finish, capacity, torque, adhesion or cross-hatch checks, chemical resistance, rubbing, durability, extreme temperature and humidity, pressure, airtightness, ageing, drop and transport simulation. We select the applicable checks for the actual bottle, decoration, pump or cap, filling product and destination market; this list does not create one universal pass standard for every project.
Do we test the glass bottle and decoration separately?
We may inspect individual parts, but final approval should consider the assembled packaging system. A bottle can meet its dimensional requirements while a pump does not seal correctly, or a decoration can look acceptable before filling but react to the product or handling route. We therefore connect bottle, decoration, closure and use-condition checks where the project requires it.
What appearance and dimensional checks do we perform?
We inspect relevant visual glass defects, bottle shape, neck finish, capacity and dimensions that affect filling, assembly or presentation. For decorated bottles, we also check colour, coverage, position, registration and visible surface defects. The buyer should define which areas are critical in normal display and which dimensions control component or production-line fit.
How do we evaluate print, coating and decoration adhesion?
Depending on the decoration system and agreed specification, we can use adhesion or cross-hatch evaluation together with visual review after the specified conditioning. The method, cut spacing, tape, substrate, curing state and acceptance criteria must be confirmed because a test name alone does not establish a meaningful result for every coating or glass surface.
Why do we perform chemical-resistance checks?
Perfume, cosmetic formulas, alcohol, oils and cleaning agents can interact differently with coatings, printing and plastic components. A test should use the actual filling product or an agreed challenge medium, contact time and temperature. We do not claim universal chemical resistance from the ink or coating name alone.
What do rubbing and durability checks tell the buyer?
They help evaluate whether decoration or surface effects change under repeated contact, packing, handling or use. The useful result depends on the rubbing material, load, cycle count, wet or dry condition and visual acceptance limit. Buyers should define the handling risk they want the test to represent instead of requesting an unspecified abrasion claim.
When do temperature, humidity and ageing checks matter?
They matter when the package will face hot or cold filling, warehouse variation, humid transport, prolonged storage or demanding consumer use. We can evaluate the agreed extreme temperature and humidity conditions and ageing route, but the test window must be based on the actual product and supply chain. A short screening test is not automatically equivalent to the full shelf-life period.
How do we check pumps, sprayers and caps?
We review neck and component fit, assembly, closure torque where applicable, actuation or dispensing function, pressure-related behaviour, airtightness and leakage risk. The buyer should provide the selected pump or cap, dip-tube requirement, output expectation, filling product and capping method so the component can be evaluated with the intended bottle.
What do capacity, pressure and airtightness checks cover?
Capacity checks confirm the agreed fill relationship, while pressure and airtightness checks address the relevant package function and seal route. The correct fixture, pressure or vacuum condition, hold time and pass criterion depend on the bottle and closure design. We do not apply one unverified limit to perfume bottles, cosmetic jars, nail-polish bottles and sprayer packs.
Why are drop and transport simulations project-specific?
Glass breakage risk depends on bottle geometry, unit protection, inner dividers, retail carton, master carton, pallet pattern, shipment route and handling. We agree which packed configuration is being tested and what distribution risk the method represents. Testing an empty bottle by itself does not validate a complete export pack.
How do water-based and UV decoration systems relate to compliance?
We prioritise water-based and UV systems where they are appropriate for the confirmed product, decoration and manufacturing route. That preference does not make every formulation automatically compliant. For United States or European destinations, the exact ink, coating, pigment, substrate and intended use must be reviewed against applicable customer and market requirements.
What should a buyer include in the test specification?
State the bottle and component codes, filling product, contact areas, decoration system, conditioning, test method, sample quantity, equipment or fixture, exposure time, temperature, pass criteria and required report format. Also identify whether the test is for development screening, pre-production approval, routine production control or a destination-market document.
