The short answer: describe the wet and cold sequence, not only the word refrigerated

A useful RFQ should distinguish chilled storage from several hours in an ice bucket. Buyers should provide the actual can, label size, application method, application temperature, service temperature, water-exposure duration, quantities and acceptance criteria. UGI Packging can then compare the current B03 art-paper route, a PP/BOPP film route and an appropriate freezer-grade construction without assuming that one specification is universally the cheapest.

What use conditions should a buyer describe for a beverage can label?

State whether the cans are kept at room temperature, sold from chilled refrigerators, exposed only to condensation, or placed in ice and water. Include the expected temperature range, how long the label may remain wet, whether the can is already cold when labeled, and whether the exposure is occasional or part of normal distribution. These conditions can require different facestock and adhesive constructions.

Why is chilled refrigeration different from several hours in an ice bucket?

A chilled can may develop surface condensation, while an ice bucket can expose label edges, facestock and adhesive to sustained liquid water. Official label-material guides list chilled, wet-surface, tight-mandrel and ice-bucket suitability as separate attributes. A label described as suitable for chilled use should not automatically be assumed suitable for prolonged ice-water exposure.

What did UGI Packging conclude for the current beverage-can project?

The customer confirmed refrigerated retail and possible immersion in ice and water for several hours during events. For that specified condition, UGI Packging does not recommend using the B03 art-paper construction. A freezer-grade wet-service construction should be quoted and tested on the actual can. B03 is the confirmed Chinese supplier material model used in this project.

What information about the can and labeling line is required?

Provide the can material and surface coating if known, body diameter, label dimensions, available label panel, surface condition at application, manual or automatic application, line speed, roll direction, core size and maximum roll diameter. Curvature, cleanliness, surface energy and the temperature at application can all affect adhesion.

How should buyers request the most economical suitable specification?

Ask for a comparison based on the complete construction and production route: facestock, adhesive, liner, printing, lamination or varnish, die cutting, roll or sheet delivery, setup waste and order quantity. The lowest material price is not necessarily the lowest usable total cost if the label fails in the intended cold and wet environment.

What sample should be approved before mass production?

Approve a finished printed and converted label applied to the actual production can. The sample should use the proposed facestock, adhesive and surface finish. Test it through the agreed application, refrigeration, condensation and ice-water sequence, then inspect edge lift, peeling, wrinkling, slipping, print damage and appearance. UGI Packging has not claimed a passing immersion result until this project-specific sample is tested.

What technical documents should buyers request?

Request the material construction or product data sheet, facestock and adhesive identification, recommended minimum application temperature, service-temperature range, storage conditions and converter limitations. When B03 is written in the quotation, retain the B03 supplier model together with the full construction so repeat orders can match the same Chinese material route.

What should the RFQ include for the 8,000-piece and 200,000-piece requirements?

List each quantity separately and include artwork count, number of print colors, label dimensions, can dimensions, wet and cold exposure, application equipment, roll or sheet preference, winding direction, surface finish and required sample test. This allows UGI Packging to compare digital and flexographic routes without presenting a fixed quantity threshold as an industry-wide rule.
