Quick answer: UGI Packaging supports both OEM and ODM paper-packaging projects. In an OEM route, the buyer normally supplies the approved structure and artwork for us to manufacture. In an ODM route, our engineering and design work begins earlier, converting a product and commercial brief into a manufacturable box specification before sampling and production.

OEM and ODM are responsibility models

OEM is suitable when the buyer has a controlled dieline, bill of materials, print-ready artwork, acceptance criteria and change-control process. ODM is suitable when the buyer has the product, brand requirements and target use but needs help with structure, material, insert, graphics or finishing. A hybrid route is common: the buyer controls brand artwork while UGI Packaging develops the packaging structure and production engineering.

What our factory does after the brief

Our production may include CAD structure development, physical white samples, colour proofs, offset or digital printing, coating or lamination, foil stamping, embossing/debossing, die-cutting, mounting, folding, gluing, assembly and final inspection. Equipment selection follows the structure and quantity: a folding-carton job does not use the same converting route as a hand-assembled rigid box.

  1. Requirement capture: record product dimensions, weight, fragility, sales channel, packing method and delivery condition.
  2. Engineering: develop or review the dieline, board grade, grain direction, tolerances, insert retention and closure.
  3. Design integration: apply artwork to the approved structure with bleed, quiet areas, barcodes, legal copy and finish layers.
  4. Sampling: select a white sample, digital printed sample or production-process sample according to the decision being approved.
  5. Production release: freeze files, materials, workmanship criteria, packing method and approved deviations before scheduling.

Files, samples and change control

A sample is useful only when its limitations are understood. A CAD or white sample checks fit and opening sequence but not print colour. A digital sample helps review graphics but may not match offset colour or final foil. A production-process sample gives the strongest finish evidence but adds tooling and setup. If product dimensions, insert material or artwork change after approval, the affected checks should be repeated.

What determines quotation and schedule

  • Finished and flat dimensions, product weight and insert geometry.
  • Material construction, print coverage and finish layers.

  • Existing files, design scope, sample route and required tests.
  • Acceptance criteria, inspection level and change-control owner.

The production clock begins after the specification, artwork, sample, quantities and commercial terms are approved—not at the first inquiry. UGI Packaging can recommend a manufacturable route, but MOQ, tooling, sample cost and lead time remain project-specific because structure, equipment setup and finishing complexity vary.
