Flexible Pouch Feature FAQ
How Do Zippers, Windows, Hang Holes and Tear Notches Affect a Pouch Quote?
Understand how common pouch features change materials, seal zones, tooling, machine setup, artwork and sample approval.
The short answer: every feature changes more than appearance
Zippers, windows, hang holes and tear notches can affect component purchasing, film structure, seal layout, die cutting, pouch-making setup, artwork safe areas and inspection. The cost effect is project-specific; buyers should provide exact type, size and position rather than asking for a generic “zipper pouch” price.
How does a zipper affect the pouch specification?
The zipper profile, width, position and seal compatibility must match the pouch structure and opening method. It also changes the top seal area, artwork limits, filling access and the way the finished pouch is closed after filling.
Does a clear window simply remove printing from one area?
No. The window can be created by leaving a transparent region in the structure or by using a separate window construction. Its size and position can affect light barrier, laminate choice, print layout, seals and product visibility.
What does a hang hole change?
A hang hole requires a defined shape and position with enough surrounding material and clearance from seals, zippers and tear notches. The buyer should confirm the retail hook or display requirement and test the filled weight, not only the empty pouch.
Why does tear-notch position matter?
The notch should guide opening without cutting into the zipper, product space or critical seal. Its position must coordinate with the top trim, seal width, artwork and the buyer’s preferred opening experience.
Can all four features be combined?
Sometimes, but the top area can become crowded and the features may compete for space. The converter should review a dimensioned drawing showing the zipper, notch, hole, window, seals and print safe areas before quotation approval.
Do these features always increase the MOQ?
No universal rule applies. They may add component starting quantities, dies, setup or slower converting, but the result depends on equipment, format, material and order quantity. Ask which specific feature creates the quoted threshold.
What artwork changes are required?
Keep text, barcodes and critical graphics clear of seals, folds, punch areas, transparent windows and expected tolerances. Use the approved production dieline rather than placing features by visual estimate.
What should be checked on the sample?
Check zipper opening and reclosure, tear path, hang-hole position under the intended load, window alignment, seal appearance, product visibility, filling access and the final closing seal. Test criteria should match the real application.
How common pouch features change the quotation
Each feature affects a different part of material, converting or approval.
| Feature | Main production effect | Buyer input |
|---|---|---|
| Zipper | Component, zipper sealing and top-area layout | Profile, position and opening requirement |
| Window | Barrier, laminate or print-layout change | Size, shape, position and visibility need |
| Hang hole | Punching, reinforcement area and retail display fit | Hole type, hook and filled weight |
| Tear notch | Opening path and coordination with seals and zipper | Notch type, side and opening height |
| Combined features | Crowded top area and tighter registration relationships | Dimensioned dieline and physical sample approval |
