Hologram Stickers: Decorative, Tamper-Evident and Authentication Options
UGI Packaging manufactures hologram stickers for decorative branding, tamper-evident closures and product-authentication programs. In our factory, we first define the function, application surface and required evidence after removal, then configure the holographic image, film construction, adhesive, printing and die-cutting route. This prevents a decorative rainbow label from being incorrectly specified as a security feature.
Decorative holographic film is not authentication by itself
Stock rainbow, diffraction or lens patterns create visual movement but can be widely available. A custom optical image, serialized print, destructible layer, void message or controlled verification feature can raise the barrier to copying, yet performance depends on the complete system and how verification is managed. ISO 22383 describes principles for authentication solutions for material goods; the official ISO page is a useful scope reference, not proof that a particular sticker is certified.
Construction and adhesive choices
A label may combine a PET or other film carrier, embossed or metallized holographic layer, print, protective coating, pressure-sensitive adhesive and release liner. The adhesive must match coated paper, uncoated paper, plastic, glass or metal and the expected temperature and storage period. Small radii, dusty board, silicone-treated surfaces and heavy texture can reduce contact area and cause lifting.
How the sticker fits the packaging design
For a decorative effect integrated into the carton, compare a label with the broader holographic surface-finish options. If the design only needs a metallic logo, hot foil stamping may use fewer separate components. A sticker is more appropriate when variable data, late-stage application, a seal across an opening or a distinct optical feature is required.
Production process and equipment
Our hologram production route uses holographic laser systems for the approved optical image, followed by embossing, metallizing and protective-coating processes as required by the construction. Sticker converting then uses screen, offset or digital printing, adhesive-coating equipment, lamination, rotary or flatbed die-cutting, matrix stripping, inspection and roll or sheet finishing. We control the sticker specification and its application to the packaging as one production program.
Quotation, proofs and approval
Send final size and shape, application surface, label position, decorative or security objective, removal behavior, optical reference, print colors, variable-data requirement, quantity, application method and storage conditions. Fixed costs may include custom optical mastering, cutting tools, print plates or screens and inspection setup. A digital artwork proof cannot approve diffraction, adhesion or tamper evidence; use a physical sample on the actual packaging material.
Quality control and failure prevention
Inspect optical consistency under defined lighting, print registration, die-cut depth, liner release, adhesive wet-out, edge lift, residue or void pattern, abrasion and scanner or human verification where applicable. Common failures include cutting through the liner, applying over a crease, specifying an adhesive without surface testing, and calling a decorative stock pattern anti-counterfeit. Production should begin only after construction, artwork, adhesive, application surface, acceptance method and approved sample are released.
Frequently asked questions
Is every hologram sticker a security label?
No. Stock holographic film may be purely decorative. Security performance requires defined features, controlled supply, verification and an agreed threat model.
Can a hologram sticker be applied across a box opening?
Yes, if the adhesive, label construction, opening force and evidence after removal are tested on the actual coated box surface.
What proof is required before production?
Approve artwork digitally, then test a physical sticker for optical appearance, adhesion, die-cutting and tamper behavior on the production packaging material.
Can variable codes be added to hologram labels?
They can be added when the label construction, print area, coding method and verification workflow are specified together.
