Custom Table Tent Printing: Structures, Materials and Stability

A table tent must stand at the intended viewing angle, resist curling and present readable information from the required sides. Structure, panel size, base lock, paperboard stiffness, grain direction, coating and environmental exposure are more important than selecting a generic menu-card template.

UGI Packaging manufactures table tents through our printing, paper converting, creasing, folding, gluing and QC operations. Artwork and color are managed through our custom commercial printing workflow, and appropriate surface finishing options can be considered for handling, cleaning and appearance.

Select a structure that remains stable

Common constructions include a triangular tent with a glued or interlocking base, a folded card with a separate support, and multi-panel displays. The footprint must fit the table without blocking service, and the viewing panels should not collapse under their own weight. A tall narrow design needs more base stability than a compact card.

If the display will be changed frequently, a reusable holder with replaceable printed inserts may be more appropriate than a permanently glued piece. If it will sit near food, drinks or cleaning spray, state the expected exposure; do not assume a paper structure is washable or suitable for direct food contact.

Design around folds and viewing distance

Place headlines where they are visible from the seated or standing viewing position. Keep text away from crease zones and base locks, and rotate artwork correctly for every panel. Fine rules across a fold and heavy ink at a tight crease can crack or misalign.

Supply the structural dieline separately from printable artwork. The Ghent Workgroup PDF guidance helps define production-file settings, while the final export and overprint choices must match the agreed print condition.

Sample the assembled object

A flat PDF cannot prove stability, fold behavior or viewing angle. A white structural sample checks the footprint and lock; a printed sample checks color, coating, crease appearance and panel orientation. Production starts after the dieline, stock, artwork, finish, assembly state and packing are approved.

UGI Packaging prints and finishes the sheet, cuts and creases it, applies glue or locking features, and supplies it flat or assembled as specified. Flat delivery reduces volume but shifts setup work to the user, so assembly instructions and lock behavior should be tested.

QC and common failures

Our QC team checks panel size, crease and cut position, print orientation, base fit, standing stability, surface condition and packing. Common failures include reversed panels, curl, a weak base lock, coating cracks, unreadable type at viewing distance and cartons that crush preassembled tents.

Frequently asked questions

Should table tents ship flat or assembled?

Flat packing reduces shipping volume but requires reliable setup by the user. Assembled delivery is convenient but needs protective cartons and occupies more space.

What makes a table tent stable?

Panel height, base footprint, board stiffness, grain direction, crease accuracy and the lock or glue construction work together to determine stability.

Can a paper table tent be wiped clean?

Only if the selected material and finish are approved for the expected moisture and cleaning method. Paperboard is not automatically washable.
