Shopping Bag Design: Materials, Handles and Load Testing
Shopping bag design begins with the product load, dimensions and carrying route. Material, gusset, bottom construction, handle, reinforcement, printing and packing must work as one system; appearance alone does not establish carrying capacity.

Specify the load and user behavior
Provide product dimensions, total packed weight, number of items, sharp edges, moisture, carry duration and whether the bag will be reused. A tall bottle bag, apparel bag and rigid gift-box carrier need different proportions and reinforcement.
The handle should suit the load and desired feel. Rope, ribbon, twisted paper, flat paper, die-cut and plastic handles use different attachment methods. Hole reinforcement, turn-over top, bottom card and side-gusset design can redistribute stress, but they must be evaluated on the complete bag.

Design graphics around folds and handles
Use the approved bag dieline and identify front, back, gussets, turn-over and bottom areas. Keep logos and text away from creases, handle holes and seams. Heavy ink coverage or lamination can affect folding and cracking, while finishes near a handle may be damaged by repeated flexing.
Environmental statements require evidence for the exact material, construction and disposal system. Do not assume that paper, reusable wording or recycled content proves a universal environmental benefit.
Sample and test the complete bag
Approve a physical sample with the real product or a representative load. The test should define weight, loading method, carry duration, lift cycles and acceptance for handles, seams and bottom. Transport testing such as ISTA procedures applies to packaged distribution systems and does not replace a bag-specific carry test.
Our QC team checks dimensions, gussets, bottom and top formation, handle position and attachment, print, finish, reinforcement and packing. Production begins after material, structure, handle, artwork, load test and packing are approved.
