The correct route depends on wall thickness, geometry, corrosion exposure, closure design and quantity; a premium coating cannot correct an unstable formed shell or poorly aligned hinge.
Material and forming route
Aluminum reduces weight and can be anodized; tinplate is widely used for formed consumer packaging; steel provides higher strength where weight is acceptable. We select sheet thickness and temper around draw depth, corner radius, lid fit and product load. Shallow tins can use stamping and drawing, while fabricated cases may use laser cutting, bending, welding, riveting or screw assembly. A paper-based rigid box remains worth comparing when the objective is presentation rather than metal-specific durability.
Our metal-box equipment and process
Our line can use laser cutters and CNC equipment for accurate blanks and features, metal-stamping machines for formed parts, press brakes for bends, and welding or mechanical assembly equipment for fabricated structures. Edges are trimmed and deburred before hinges, latches, handles or internal supports are installed. Depending on the specification, finishing uses cleaning and pre-treatment, powder-coating booths, plating, anodizing, spray finishing or protective coating equipment.
Printing, engraving and branded presentation
Decoration can include screen printing, digital printing, pad printing, laser engraving, embossing or applied labels. Our surface-treatment guide helps buyers separate visual finish from functional protection. Artwork must account for formed corners, seams, recessed areas and hardware. For printed metal, adhesion and abrasion tests should be agreed on the production coating rather than inferred from a flat color proof.
Quotation, tooling and samples
Provide product dimensions and weight, box style, metal and thickness if specified, lid or hinge design, closure, finish, decoration, insert, quantity, packing method and destination. Fixed costs may include stamping or drawing tools, bending fixtures, welding fixtures, printing screens, engraving setup and coating preparation. A rapid prototype can confirm size, but a production-process sample is needed to approve formed radii, lid fit, seams, coating, decoration and hardware action.
Quality control and common failure points
Our inspectors check sheet thickness, dimensions, flatness, burrs, corner formation, seam quality, lid-to-base fit, hinge alignment, closure force, coating coverage, color, print adhesion, corrosion marks, insert fit and packing protection. Typical failures include sharp trim edges, oil or dust under coating, warped lids, uneven powder coverage and hardware rubbing the product. Production begins after material, drawing, tooling, finish, artwork, quantity and the required sample are approved.
Material recovery and compliance inputs
Metal can have strong recovery value, but coatings, mixed inserts and closures affect the final packaging system.
