What is a glued-bottom food takeout box?

It is a box whose bottom or related seam uses adhesive as part of the load-carrying closure. Several flap and seam designs fit this description, so the dieline, glue locations and delivered state must be shown.

What is a lock-bottom or auto-bottom box?

A manual lock bottom uses interlocking flaps during erection. A crash-lock or auto-bottom is normally pre-glued so the bottom opens and locks as the carton is erected. These structures are not interchangeable and an auto-bottom is not necessarily adhesive-free.

Which bottom is stronger for heavy food?

No universal answer applies. Board grade, box dimensions, flap overlap, glue bond, tab geometry, product mass and load distribution determine performance. Approve the exact structure with the intended fill and handling.

Does either bottom make a takeout box leak-proof?

No. Coating, folds, corner gaps, cut edges, glue seams, free liquid, grease, temperature, time and orientation affect leakage. A bottom can carry weight yet still allow liquid migration through another path.

Which structure is faster to erect?

A pre-glued auto-bottom can reduce manual folding steps in some workflows, while other lock or glued structures may suit different equipment and products. Actual speed depends on delivered state, operator or machine, closure steps and inspection requirements.

How do hot and cold food conditions affect the bottom?

Heat, grease, moisture, refrigeration and condensation can change paper stiffness, coating behaviour and adhesive bonds. State fill temperature, holding time, storage and delivery conditions, then test the completed box.

Are packaging adhesives automatically suitable for food use?

No. Suitability depends on exact formulation, adhesive location, direct or indirect contact, foreseeable transfer, food type, temperature and duration. Request applicable supplier information and assess the finished printed and glued package.

Can coated board be difficult to glue?

It can be, depending on surface energy, coating, adhesive chemistry, application amount, open time, compression and cure. The proposed board, coating and adhesive should be trialled together under production-representative conditions.

Does a lock bottom eliminate quality-control risks?

No. Misfolded tabs, incomplete engagement, crease variation, adhesive defects in auto-bottoms and incorrect erection can still occur. Inspection should use defined criteria for opening, locking, squareness, load and leakage where relevant.

How should transport testing be performed?

Use boxes erected by the intended method, filled with the real product or a controlled equivalent, packed in the planned master carton and exposed to an appropriate distribution test. Retest after changes to board, coating, adhesive, dieline or packing process.

Is a lock bottom always cheaper or available at a lower MOQ?

No. Cutting die, folder-gluer setup, adhesive, material yield, erection labour, waste, packing and quantity affect cost and economical production quantity. Compare quotations for the same product load and performance criteria.

What should buyers include in the RFQ and sample approval?
