PET, PP and PLA are broad polymer families. Buyers should compare the exact film grade, thickness, optical properties, temperature and contact conditions, surface treatment, adhesive, window geometry, regulatory documentation and end-market recovery route for the actual package.

What do PET, PP and PLA mean for a food-box window?

They identify different polymer families: polyethylene terephthalate, polypropylene and polylactic acid. Each family includes films with different orientation, thickness, additives, surface treatments and performance, so the polymer abbreviation is not a complete specification.

Which window film is the clearest?

No polymer family is universally clearest. Haze, gloss, surface quality, film gauge, orientation, recycled content where applicable and processing conditions affect appearance. Buyers should approve the exact film over the intended product and printed box.

Which film is stiffest or most resistant to cracking?

The result depends on grade, gauge, orientation, temperature, die-cut edge quality, fold geometry and handling. A data sheet can help compare candidate films, but the converted window and box should be tested under intended packing and distribution conditions.

Can PET, PP or PLA windows be used for hot food?

Only when the exact film and complete package are supported for the stated filling temperature, contact time and handling. Polymer names alone do not establish heat resistance, dimensional stability or food-contact suitability.

Are these films automatically suitable for refrigeration, freezing or reheating?

No. Cold impact, brittleness, condensation, dimensional change and reheating conditions vary by grade and package design. Microwave or oven suitability must never be inferred from a generic PET, PP or PLA label.

Which film prevents fogging from bakery or hot-food moisture?

None automatically. Fogging depends on product temperature, water vapour, package ventilation, film surface and whether a suitable anti-fog treatment is used. The treatment also needs appropriate food-contact documentation and production validation.

How is window film attached to paperboard?

The film is normally bonded around an overlap area using a compatible adhesive or converting process. Surface treatment, board coating, adhesive chemistry, bond area, cure and folds affect retention. Approve adhesion on the final printed and coated board.

Are PET, PP and PLA automatically compliant for direct food contact?

No. The exact film formulation, additives, intended food type, temperature, time and contact side determine the required regulatory basis. For EU uses, applicable plastic food-contact rules include composition, migration and declaration requirements for the relevant supply chain.

Does a PLA window make the box compostable or biodegradable?

Not automatically. PLA source and composition vary, and compostability claims require the complete package to meet an applicable specification under stated conditions. Paperboard, ink, adhesive, coatings, labels and the local collection route must also be considered.

Are PET or PP window boxes automatically recyclable?

No. Recyclability depends on the complete package, window size, adhesive, separation behaviour, sorting, collection and recycler acceptance. A resin code or material name alone does not establish a recycling claim for the combined paper-and-film box.

Can one window film be substituted for another without changing the design?

Not safely without review. Gauge, stiffness, shrinkage, surface treatment, adhesion, die cutting, anti-fog behaviour and food-contact documentation can change. A substitution should trigger artwork and dieline checks plus a production-representative sample.

What should buyers include in the RFQ and sample approval?

State the food, contact side, temperature and time, refrigeration or reheating, window dimensions, target clarity or anti-fog need, film gauge, adhesive, target market and intended environmental claim.
