Presentation Folder Design: Pockets, Capacity and Print-Ready Files
A presentation folder must be designed from the contents outward. Document size, sheet count, pocket depth, spine allowance, card slots, closure, board stiffness, print, finish and assembly route determine whether the finished folder works.

Specify capacity and access
List every item the folder must hold, including paper size, quantity, booklet thickness, cards and loose samples. A narrow pocket may look clean but fail when the contents are thick. A gusset or spine adds capacity but changes the dieline, folding sequence and packing volume.
Choose one or two pockets, pocket angle, thumb cuts, card slots and any closure based on how users insert and remove documents. Grain direction and crease geometry matter on heavy board because poor planning can cause cracking or spring-back.

Build artwork on the approved dieline
Use the final structural dieline as a locked non-printing reference. Keep text away from folds, cuts, slots and glue zones; extend backgrounds through bleed; and check the orientation of every outside and inside panel. Special finishes need separate artwork and a registration tolerance suitable for the design.

Approve structure before full production
A white structural sample checks capacity, pockets, slots, spine and closure. A printed sample checks paper, color, coating, foil, embossing and fold appearance. The production clock begins after the contents, dieline, material, artwork, finish, sample and packing state are approved.
Our QC team checks dimensions, pocket depth, slot position, fold and glue accuracy, capacity, print registration, finish alignment and packing. Common failures include insufficient capacity, cracked folds, a card slot that grips too tightly, pocket glue entering the usable area and artwork reversed across the spine.

How is presentation-folder capacity calculated?
Measure the actual document stack and add any booklet, card or sample thickness. Use a spine or gusset when a flat fold cannot hold the contents reliably.
Does a custom folder require a die?
Usually yes when it includes pockets, slots, tabs, windows or a nonstandard outline. Approve the dieline before final artwork.
Should folders be delivered flat or assembled?
Flat delivery reduces volume but requires setup by the user. Assembled delivery is convenient but needs more protective packing.
What sample should be approved first?
Approve a white structural sample for fit and capacity before using a printed sample to judge color and finishing.
