Flyer Design for Print: Format, Files and Factory Production
A flyer should be designed around one audience, one main action and one distribution method. Before layout begins, specify finished size, print sides, quantity, paper, color, finish, version count, delivery format and the distance from which the main message must be read.
UGI Packaging manufactures printed flyers in our factory. We prepare production files from approved content, preflight the artwork, print, finish, cut, count and pack the job. Buyers can compare production options in our flyer printing guide and use our commercial printing workflow for related flat printed materials.
Define the job before arranging the page
A hand-distributed event flyer, an in-box insert, a counter handout and a posted notice need different dimensions, paper and hierarchy. Identify the headline, supporting evidence, offer conditions, response route, legal text and expiry or version date. If content changes frequently, plan shorter version-controlled runs rather than printing an unstable message in bulk.
The front should communicate the purpose quickly. A second side is useful for a schedule, map, specifications, terms or translations, but it adds a page-order and registration decision. Folding, perforation or die-cutting turns the product into a more complex structure and should be quoted explicitly.

Prepare a file that tolerates production
Extend backgrounds through bleed and keep logos, text and response details within the safe area. Use images at an appropriate effective resolution and avoid a fine border close to trim, where normal cutting movement becomes obvious. QR codes should be tested at final size on the actual paper and finish.
The Ghent Workgroup print-production settings provide industry guidance for preparing PDFs. UGI Packaging still checks the file against the selected press, paper and finishing route, because no export preset replaces the job specification.
Proof, manufacture and approve
A PDF proof confirms content, layout, trim and version. A calibrated color proof is appropriate when brand or product color matters, while a physical sample is useful for paper feel, opacity, coating, folding or perforation. Production starts after the final file, paper, finish, proof, quantity split and packing are approved.
Our QC team checks version, dimensions, trim, registration, color consistency, small text, QR or barcode areas, surface condition, count and packing labels. Common failures include obsolete dates, low-resolution images, text too close to trim, show-through on light paper and mixed language versions.
Frequently asked questions
What information is needed before flyer design starts?
Provide the audience, objective, finished size, content, response route, paper, print sides, finish, quantity, versions and distribution method.
Should a flyer use one side or two?
Use one side for a short message and two sides when supporting details are necessary without shrinking the type.
When is a physical flyer sample useful?
Use one when paper feel, opacity, coating, fold, perforation or packing fit cannot be approved from a PDF.
Who approves the final flyer text?
The buyer should approve all claims, prices, dates, contact details, translations and legal content before production output is released.
